On September 24, 2021, Beijing, China -- Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX), a leading enterprise of adaptive computing, and NEC (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced that the two sides are cooperating to develop NEC's next-generation 5G radio unit (RU), which is expected to be available for global deployment in 2022. Xilinsi 7nm Versal AI Core series devices have been mass produced and shipped, which will help the new NEC RU achieve better performance.
These latest NEC 5G large-scale MIMO RUs use digital beamforming to bring more efficient communication and higher bandwidth. NEC RU is designed to meet the global market demand and will support multiple 5G bands including C-Band. The Sirens Versal AI Core series devices adopted by NEC RU support advanced signal processing and beamforming, and also integrate O-RAN functions. In addition to allowing products from different vendors to interoperate more widely, the O-RAN interface also supports open and flexible 5G RAN deployment.
